Why Harris Transitioned from ‘Joy’ to Labeling Trump as a ‘Fascist’

Vice President Kamala Harris's recent shift from promoting "joy" to labeling former President Donald Trump a "fascist" represents a significant change in her political messaging. 

This evolution reflects the growing urgency surrounding American democracy and the heightened stakes of the upcoming USA election 2024. 

With the country facing increased polarization and a climate of escalating authoritarian rhetoric, Harris has embraced a more confrontational approach, aiming to draw attention to what she sees as real threats to democratic institutions.

Echoing John Kelly’s Warnings

Harris's decision to use the term "fascist" came shortly after John Kelly, Trump's longest-serving chief of staff and a retired Marine general, publicly warned that the former president meets “the general definition of a fascist.” 

Kelly’s comments were particularly alarming, as he detailed that Trump privately admired dictators and expressed regret over not having generals as loyal as those who served Adolf Hitler. 

These remarks gave Harris a platform to amplify her concerns, describing Kelly’s comments as "a 911 call to the American people." She urged voters to heed the warnings from former Trump insiders who have distanced themselves from the ex-president and voiced concern over his authoritarian tendencies.

Framing the 2024 Election as a Battle for Democracy

By explicitly labeling Trump a "fascist," Harris is positioning the 2024 election as more than just a traditional political contest. 

She frames it as a fight for the soul of the nation, where the stakes are not merely about policy differences but about preserving the very foundations of democratic governance.
